Eldon Couey, Founder (1930-2019)
Eldon grew up on the family farm near Cayley, AB. He has lived by the motto that you need to give back to the community in which you live and that is what he has done, serving on many community boards and organizations such as: Cayley I.O.O.F. Lodge, Teen Town, High River Agriculture Society, High River Chamber of Commerce, High River Rotary Club, Highwood Memorial Center, Cayley United Church, Little Bow Feeder Association, High River Rural Fire Association and Highwood PC Party. He proudly served 3 terms as Mayor of High River and 2005 was appointed as a Centennial Ambassador for the Province of Alberta. Eldon has been a member of the Alberta Auctioneers Association for over 50 years. He continues to be active in the community and takes great pride in supporting many charities and organizations that benefit High River and surrounding area.
Wally has grown up and still lives on the family farm in the Cayley area where they raise cattle and grain. Wally has been active in Couey Auction since graduating from Western College of Auctioneering in Lacombe, AB., in November of 1978. He spent 14 years in the Parts business and then moved into Building Maintenance where he still works today. He has participated in many fundraising auctions over the years as well has also announced the Little Britches Rodeo, Mutton Bustin’, College rodeo, Tractor Pulls, Hockey and Lacrosse games over the years. Wally is a long time member of the Cayley I.O.O.F. Lodge, and is on the board of directors of the High River Flyers Hockey Club.
Dave Smith, originally from Cremona,Ab., came to the East Longview area with wife Helen and five children in 1976. Since 1965, as a welder, he has built or supervised the building of over 100 drilling rigs and numerous components, for various companies. They include singles, doubles, triples, foremost rigs, heli-rigs, coil rigs and walking rigs. He and Helen own and operate West Country Welding Services Ltd.
In 1987 Dave went to Billings Montana to fulfull a lifelong dream of becoming an auctioneer. He worked for various auction companies over the 1st few years, Area Auction, CPA Auction and in 1987 began his long time pleasant association with Couey Auction Ltd. People say Dave is talkative by nature and now he says" it's great - because he gets paid to talk." He loves interacting with people and giving back to the community, so he assists with many charity auctions as well as events with the East Longview Community Hall Board.
